RCL: Subjects
GEOLOGY This section contains resources related to the study of general geology, as well as specific subjects in the earth sciences. It includes resources related to the study of the earth, its history, surface and subsurface features, rock types, resources, processes, past life, as well as references to the geology of world regions. Since the third edition of Books for College Libraries was published, the role of plate tectonics in earth processes has become more clearly understood and incorporated into books for every reading level. As a result, the very few of the titles from BCL3 have been retained. However, this should not be used as a reason to weed titles that are no longer included, as many of the titles in BCL3 are classic texts related to the history of geology. The resources on this list include textbooks commonly used in undergraduate earth science courses, reference works, including encyclopedias and dictionaries, web sites and general titles on hot topics, such as earthquakes, volcanoes and natural hazards. Where possible, the most recent edition of a title is recommended, although some classic titles that are only available as reprints and a few out of print titles are also included on the list.
