ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE The Italian Language and Literature section provides a selection of titles appropriate for language and literature study at the undergraduate level. It is not intended to support the curriculum of a major in Italian. The scope of this selection reflects the rapid, continuing growth of women's and gay studies over the past two decades, and includes major works of literature, literary history, biography, and criticism. Particular emphasis has been given to those authors who have influenced the traditions of other western national literatures. The Italian section also includes accessible critical guides and major works in English translation. Where possible, works are recommended in their newest, most reliable editions, with preference for compendious collected editions. Some works are available only as reprints, while a few are out of print, though still recommended. Return to Subject List
