ANCIENT HISTORY The Ancient History section covers the history of the ancient Near East (Mesopotamia, the Hittites, ancient Palestine, Persia, and Egypt), Greece, and Rome. The reference and general works sections cover general histories, encyclopedias, bibliographies, and the like covering more than one ancient civilization. The major civilization of the ancient Mediterranean and Near East are covered geographically in order of their rise to prominence. Egypt, Greece, and Rome are subdivided by topic and period. "Sources" sections under Greece and Rome include both general discussions of primary source materials and collections of them. Works of the Greek and Roman historical writers may be found in the author listings under Classics. Return to Subject List
